My review of World War Z

My review of World War Z

I would advise not being late for this movie. Director Marc Forster gives the audience a few minutes to get to know the protagonist, Gerry Lane (played by Brad Pitt) and his family, before we are thrust into a heart pounding, high action sequence.

If you have seen any previews or read the book then you know that this is a zombie movie. However, it is not like any zombie movie I have ever seen. I would go as far as to say that this is not a horror movie but a biological thriller. There is practically no blood and gore and it certainly does not need it to make it a good movie.

After watching the movie I realized that we don’t really get to know any of the characters other than Gerry. Brad Pitt does well in his role and his desperation and determination to find an answer and to get back to his family are obvious but no one else has any depth and we don’t get to know anyone else. (I suppose in a zombie apocalypse we probably wouldn’t have much time to get to know anyone else). However, the movie was exciting and engaging enough that I did not notice this until after the movie was over.

The action sequences were well set up and had enough intensity without being overwhelming. The story took precedence over the action, which was a good thing. There is such a thing as too much action.

In my opinion, this is a movie worth seeing in the theaters. I also don’t think you have to like zombie movies to like World War Z.

I give this movie 7.5/10 stars.
